چکیده

Traditionally, Kuand C-band radars are used in ocean scatterometry to retrieve an ocean wind vector. Examples are QuikSCAT and ASCAT satellites. Recently, attempts have been made to use X-band SAR aboard the German TerraSAR-X satellite for the same purpose [1]. Usually, wind retrieval is performed using empirical Geophysical Model Functions (GMF). In the past, a set of GMFs have been designed based on data sets obtained in calibration missions with Kuand C-band radars. In the paper [1] the development of a GMF for X-band has been reported, which was utilized to retrieve ocean surface wind speeds from TerraSAR-X. In order to better design the GMFs, use of physical models for radar ocean scattering can be helpful. Previously, such a model was successfully developed for Kuand C-band. The mismatch between the model predictions and GMFs was of the order of 1-2 dB [2]. Here, we present results produced by this model for normalized radar cross section (NRCS) from ocean surface at X-band and provide comparisons with cross sections at Kuand C-bands.

Investigation of Low-grazing-angle Microwave Backscattering from Three- Dimensional Breaking Sea Waves

The microwave backscattering of the sea surface is investigated with the wedge-shaped breaking waves for the super events at low grazing angles (LGA). According to the relationship between the wave breaking and the whitecap, the finite three-dimensional wedges are utilized to approximately model the breaking waves, of which the spatial distribution is simulated with whitecap coverage. The phase...

Determination of sediments diameter using acoustic waves

The use of acoustic waves in researches related to sea water is of most importance among scientists recently. Since these waves are the only waves, transmitted in water with lowest attenuation and high speed, they can be used in many scientific fields. The main goal of this research is to better understand the physics and mechanisms of sound-seabed interaction, including acoustic penetration, p...

Theoretical model for scattering of radar signals in Ku- and C-bands from a rough sea surface with breaking waves

A small-slope approximation (SSA) is used for numerical calculations of a radar backscattering cross section of the ocean surface for both Kuand C-bands for various wind speeds and incident angles. Both the lowest order of the SSA and the one that includes the next-order correction to it are considered. The calculations were made by assuming the surface-height spectrum of Elfouhaily et al for f...

ISPH Numerical Modeling of Nonlinear Wave Run-up on Steep Slopes

Non-breaking tsunami waves run-up on steep slopes can cause severe damages to coastal structures. The estimation of the wave run-up rate caused by tsunami waves are important to understand the performance and safety issues of the breakwater in practice. In this paper, an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method (ISPH) method was utilized for the 2DV numerical modeling of nonli...
